August slipped away like a moment in time…
Here’s a little bit about the Loeb Boathouse 🛶
The Loeb Boathouse has over 100 row boats, which you can rent per hour, each of which seat up to four people. It’s lovely, as you can get a closer
view of the Bethesda Fountain, go under the Bow Bridge, and see the waterfowl that are sometime hard to see from the shore, including the park’s famous egrets, herons, geese, and loons. Enjoy the beautiful sights of NYC skyscrapers, while on the water! It’s only $20 for a hour and also this is a fun family activity as children may also enjoy helping to row the boat! Open for rentals April thru November. What are some of your bucket list activities for NYC?
The Loeb Boathouse:
Boating became popular on the lake in Central Park in 1860s and naturally launched a need for a storage facility, or a boathouse. In 1872 Central Park landscape architect Calvert Vaux designed a beautiful, two story Victorian, wooden boathouse that was all of twelve foot wide and twenty foot long. Later with needs for repair and renovation, philanthropist Carl Loeb and his wife Adeline generously donated $305,000 with which was created the building you currently see today as The Loeb Boathouse a restaurant and cafe, opened in this location in 1954.
